Prams Prams Prams

I thought today I would look at prams which is very exciting mainly because it was the one purchase I was really looking forward to. My excitement stems from the fact that I was very spoilt for choice when looking at different prams. Unfortunately, like all first time parents and I am sure I was not alone in this situation I chose the wrong pram the first time around. Not having any idea of what to look for or what pram would suit my needs we rushed our purchase of a pram and came to regret it later.

Like many first time parents when buying our first ever pram we automatically gravitated to the biggest and probably heaviest pram thinking that it was going to provide more safety for our precious newborn. We looked for prams that was basically a cot on wheels thinking it would be perfect for our little one to sleep comfortably while we were out and about. Which without much experience and knowledge in this area made perfect sense.

However, once we actually took our monster of a pram out for a spin we soon realised how cumbersome and unpractical this particular pram was! Trying to push the pram around the confined spaces of certain retail stores and restaurants made using the pram less and less enjoyable. Not to mention the first time I had to take the pram out alone without the help of Hubby’s strength I struggled literally getting the pram out of the boot (it weighed a ton) add to that the fact that it took me forever to work out how to unfold the thing all while baby was screaming in the car because I was taking too long. We’ll lets go to say that was my last and only trip taking that pram out by myself. Even my husband took it out only a handful of times after that before he gave up and went and purchased a Baby carrier.

The second time around purchasing a pram we had a lot more knowledge and knew what we needed before making our selection. So when my second son came along a friend recommended me her pram which basically was built with the exact specifications I wanted, to be able to use the pram every day. It was light so it was easy to take in and out of the car. It was a one button push to fold and a simple pull to open up the pram completely which is so easy and practical to use. It converts from both a forward and reverse facing pram easily. It also allows you to adjust the seat so baby can lie down or sit up as required and all with just a simple click (perfect)!! The pram is extremely compact and very easy to manoeuvre around small spaces as well. And my absolute favourite part about the pram is you can change the sunshade and the pram liner to different colours depending on your mood and the available colours you can choose from is mind boggling!! You can also fit the pram into a carry bag for travelling how great is that!! Something we needed as our son got older was a pram that we can fold and send on board a plane. So the pram we ended up buying for our second son was a Bugaboo Bee and although it costs a bit more than my original pram, the use I have had from it made the spend worth it.

Now I know the Bugaboo Bee might not be for everyone so I have included a few other prams that come with glowing recommendations. Here are a lists of other brands you may consider:

THE BUDGET

Maclaren Quest Elite

Maclaren prams are great because not only are they affordable they are lightweight and come with their revolutionary 3D fold design (one hand fold). This ensures the pram folds up both easily and compact which is good if you have a small car or limited boot space. However, Maclaren prams although lightweight is very sturdy and having been around since 1965 you can rest assure their prams are made of the highest safety and quality. They pride themselves on their above industry standards on safety features and innovative styles. Which gives me a lot of confidence when recommending this brand.

THE STYLISH

Quinny Moodd

I recommend the Quinny pram with confidence as I currently have the Quinny for my eldest son. I purchased the Quinny a few years back when my son was 3 and we needed a pram for his first trip overseas and the idea of lugging his monster pram around on holidays sent shivers down my spine so I made my husband do some research on a basic lightweight pram and he ended up buying the Quinny Zapp which was perfect!! It folded into a bag and was so light and easy to open and fold I just loved it! The downside is that the Zapp is not suitable for a newborn. That’s why I recommend the Quinny Moodd instead of the Zapp. The Moodd not only looks very stylish it also comes with some great features such as a one touch automatic unfolding and a
two way reclining seat from birth!! The only thing is that it is a bit more heavier than the Bugaboo Bee but still light compared to other prams on the market.

THE HIGH TECH

4Moms Origami

Although relatively new onto the market the 4Moms Origami pram comes with some very impressive features not seen before on any other prams. It has a power folding feature that means the pram opens and closes by itself with a press of a button. Add to that some generators on the wheels so it can self charge as well as allowing you to charge your phone while you walk how great is that. Then you also get lights on the pram to make you and your baby more visible especially good for those late afternoons and nightly walks. Then the best high tech feature is an LCD screen on the pram that includes a thermometer/speedometer/trip and lifetime odometers. Truly an unbelievable pram with all the quirky technological features. This pram is perfect for those that want something just a little bit different.

So, hopefully after reading this blog post you can go ahead with purchasing the right pram with a bit more knowledge than want I had purchasing my first pram!!!

Gift Ideas For Mum

With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I know for many the idea of buying the right gift for mum can be quite a difficult task. I mean how can any present convey just how much our mum really means to us. I guess today’s post is mainly for the guys whether you are looking at buying for your mum or the mother of your children I hope this post can make it a lot less confusing choosing the right gift.

The art of choosing the right present is to keep it simple and generic. This means that a good gift will be suitable for any age group. I also tend to stick to presents that people will get good use out of (ever the practical person I am). So if you are in a jam or you have left your present shopping to the last minute which I know guys usually do, instead of the usual flowers and chocolates for mum here are some other ideas you can get her:

Diptyque Candles
Diptyque Candles

I must admit these Diptyque Candles are quite luxurious and expensive but when it’s for your mum the price is justifiable. Seriously once you have purchased a Diptyque candle and lit it up no other candles compare. The aroma you get from these candles are AMAZING!! I just love the Gardenia Candles!!!
(A bouquet of opulent white flowers in a twilit room in the evening). The smell takes me back to an old English garden and with the choice of over 50 different scented candles how can you resist.

I first came across L’occitane products a few years ago in a hotel room in Japan and since then have fallen in love with their products!! All L’occitane products come with a unique smell and I am a sucker for anything that smells good and is good for you. The hand moisturizer is to die for!! Not only will it leave your hands feeling soft but also smelling good too. Since my chance encounter with a bathroom filled with mini L’occitane products, I have since been buying L’occitane gifts for my girlfriends, nieces and even my adopted grandmother!! Their products are so versatile and suitable for any age. I am currently loving their Cherry Blossom range as it brings me back to Japan. If you are looking to get mum a perfume that is slightly different from the pop star and movie star fragrances I suggest you try L’occtaine Cherry Blossom perfume.

Every woman needs a decent lipstick and getting mum a good quality lipstick she can use everyday is a great gift!! When it comes to a great lipstick you can’t go past Chanel with its iconic button popup lipstick and it’s brand indented on the lipstick how can you consider any other brands? Seriously you can’t go wrong with anything that has Chanel attached to it!!! But then a new kid has arrived on the block and taken the world by storm in the name of Tom Ford who ironically rose to fame designing mens wear specifically suits. However, it has now ventured into beauty products for women and I must say their lipstick range is great and looks good too!! For the more adventurous mum loving the corals in both the Chanel and the Tom Ford range. However, when unsure go for the neutral beige or pale pink colours as these you can wear everyday with any outfit and for any occasions.
