A Quick Guide To Birthday Parties

It’s been awhile and I have been looking around for some inspiration for my next post and thanks to a very busy few weeks attending numerous kids birthday parties which I must say has been perfectly organized by some of my dearest friends has led me to this latest offering for my blog site. Kids birthday parties have come a long way since I was a kid and I have to admit the last couple of parties I have been lucky enough to attend is nothing short of spectacular. I have found more and more parents are going that extra mile to give their kids a day that they will remember and for many guests as well a truly memorable experience. Although I must admit it does come at quiet a cost and it looks like in today’s society some families are prepared to fork out the dollars to give their children that big birthday experience. So with that in mind in this post I will try give many out there a quick guide to organizing a kid’s birthday party. So buckle down and enjoy my little birthday adventure.

THE THEME

I believe the starting point to all great parties is to decide on a good theme. Once you have decided on the theme organizing the rest of the party is relatively easy. For their parts most kids will be able to help you decide which theme they would like for their birthday. For the girls I have found that more recently the “Frozen” theme has been hugely popular thanks mainly to the success of the movie. Ideas using this theme is endless, in my part of the world I have seen performing arts students dressing up as Anna and Elsie on weekends and hosting these Frozen theme parties which is great. They perform some of the popular songs in the movies and organize Frozen themed games for the kids and seriously who wouldn’t want to be a princess for the day? Following on from the Frozen theme other popular traditional girls themes seems to be Fairies, Barbie, and Princess themes. However, if you want to sway slightly different I have always been a huge fan of Hello Kitty and I think this is great as a birthday theme as their are quite a lot of merchandise available for Hello Kitty to help you create this particular theme. Now on the boys side of things Ben 10 and Spiderman theme birthday parties are usually very popular. But my number one theme for boys is the Pirate theme as you can always organize a great outdoor treasure hunt to entertain the kids for hours. For something different that is also unisex is a Carnival theme where with this theme things like fairy floss and toffee apples will surely bring joy to many kids and I must admit some adults as well.

THE FOOD

Once you have decided on the theme the rest is a breeze. Probably my favourite part of any birthday party is the food. With the food let your creativity run wild. Draw inspirations from popular cooking shows such as Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules. Long gone are the days of mini sausage rolls and pies, it seems these days people are tying in the food with their party themes which is great and very imaginative. Also, I am finding more and more party foods are a lot healthier than they were in the past so more in the tummy does not necessarily equate to more on the hips. PERFECT! Thanks to my clever cousin I have included some of her wonderful cooking skills and excellent photography skills as well for you to draw some inspirations on what types of party foods you want to serve up.

The Entertainment

Again modern day parties have an endless selection of Entertainment options. For a boy’s Pirate theme Treasure Hunts are both fun and entertaining. As for the Frozen theme parties you find that you can hire Performing Arts students who dress up as Elsie and Anna and perform games and sing songs from the movies which the kids love! Magicians, balloon people and clowns are still popular. However, my son went to a party recently and they had hired Mad Scientists who conducted different science experiments with the kids and from what my son told me they thoroughly enjoyed it. Games such as Pass the Parcel and Pinatas remain the choice of many kids parties.

The Cake

Last but definitely not least is probably the centre point of all birthday parties the Cake! Every year my choice of birthday cake seems to be whatever is the flavour of the month in my son’s world. At 2 it was Thomas the Tank, at 3 it was Mickey Mouse and at 6 it was Spiderman. What really surprises me is how many talented cake creators there are available. The results of all these cake ideas transformed into reality is truly a work of art and the taste are never compromised either which is simply just amazing. I have included some great birthday cakes creators but they are all local from Perth but I am pretty sure there are some amazing cake creators in all parts of the world.

Decorating The Playroom

A playroom was one room I would have loved to have as kid growing up but never had the chance to have a dedicated area in our house just to play and simply just be a kid. So when I became a mum besides the nursery the playroom was the other most important room I wanted to do right. I wanted to dedicate a room for my son to go and enjoy without me having to worry about anything. I also wanted him to view this room as his inner sanction a place that is just for him to have fun. So I put a list together of things that I could put in this room to decorate it and make it safe and enjoyable for him and I thought I would share that list with everyone on this blog. It might just be fun reading this blog or you can get some ideas to decorate your own playroom or play area.

THE MAT

The first thing I purchased for this room was a play mat. I did some research and then came across SoftMats and let me tell you they are amazing. True to the name they really are soft with plenty of cushioning and like many toddlers my little boy has had some tumbles thus far but luckily this mat has cushioned all his falls with not so much as a tear from these mishaps. So I can confidently recommend these mats for any playroom. They are an Australian company but I am pretty sure they will deliver internationally, their website is:
www.softmats.com.au

The Toys

Selecting what toys to put in the play room was like being a kid again for me. Children today have so many choices when it comes to toys and I have to admit it was fun choosing what to buy for them to play and enjoy. So firstly for the girls you really can’t go wrong with a Doll House. As a little girl I always wanted a doll house and back then there weren’t anywhere near the quality you can buy today. Here are two of my favourite doll houses but your options here are certainly endless:

Imaginarium Doll House

And for the more serious Doll House collector check out www.dheaustralia.com. The Doll House Emporium guys have some seriously good selection of houses for any girl’s playroom.

For the boys start with a good Train set they will love this even as they grow older. So you will get plenty of use from this over the years. I found the most popular train set was definitely the Thomas the Tank Engine range partly due to the popular TV show.

But closely second the Imaginarium guys do a more detailed train set with so many parts to build and play with and believe it or not is cheaper than the Thomas range.

Finally for all the adventurous and active boys and girls the Lerado range of play house and activity climber is my recommendation. Check their website out at www.lerado.com.au
Their products comes with the high safety and quality ratings. But with that comes a high price tag. If Lerado is out of your price range there are cheaper options at places like Toys r us.

The Furniture

To round out your playroom add some furniture and your room is ready for some endless fun. I had a look around and I have to admit the guys at Pottery Barn have some good stuff here. I wanted a drawing table that they can sit and draw or paint and I fell in love with the Pottery Barn Table

Prams Prams Prams

I thought today I would look at prams which is very exciting mainly because it was the one purchase I was really looking forward to. My excitement stems from the fact that I was very spoilt for choice when looking at different prams. Unfortunately, like all first time parents and I am sure I was not alone in this situation I chose the wrong pram the first time around. Not having any idea of what to look for or what pram would suit my needs we rushed our purchase of a pram and came to regret it later.

Like many first time parents when buying our first ever pram we automatically gravitated to the biggest and probably heaviest pram thinking that it was going to provide more safety for our precious newborn. We looked for prams that was basically a cot on wheels thinking it would be perfect for our little one to sleep comfortably while we were out and about. Which without much experience and knowledge in this area made perfect sense.

However, once we actually took our monster of a pram out for a spin we soon realised how cumbersome and unpractical this particular pram was! Trying to push the pram around the confined spaces of certain retail stores and restaurants made using the pram less and less enjoyable. Not to mention the first time I had to take the pram out alone without the help of Hubby’s strength I struggled literally getting the pram out of the boot (it weighed a ton) add to that the fact that it took me forever to work out how to unfold the thing all while baby was screaming in the car because I was taking too long. We’ll lets go to say that was my last and only trip taking that pram out by myself. Even my husband took it out only a handful of times after that before he gave up and went and purchased a Baby carrier.

The second time around purchasing a pram we had a lot more knowledge and knew what we needed before making our selection. So when my second son came along a friend recommended me her pram which basically was built with the exact specifications I wanted, to be able to use the pram every day. It was light so it was easy to take in and out of the car. It was a one button push to fold and a simple pull to open up the pram completely which is so easy and practical to use. It converts from both a forward and reverse facing pram easily. It also allows you to adjust the seat so baby can lie down or sit up as required and all with just a simple click (perfect)!! The pram is extremely compact and very easy to manoeuvre around small spaces as well. And my absolute favourite part about the pram is you can change the sunshade and the pram liner to different colours depending on your mood and the available colours you can choose from is mind boggling!! You can also fit the pram into a carry bag for travelling how great is that!! Something we needed as our son got older was a pram that we can fold and send on board a plane. So the pram we ended up buying for our second son was a Bugaboo Bee and although it costs a bit more than my original pram, the use I have had from it made the spend worth it.

Bugaboo Bee
Bugaboo Bee

image

Now I know the Bugaboo Bee might not be for everyone so I have included a few other prams that come with glowing recommendations. Here are a lists of other brands you may consider:

THE BUDGET

Maclaren Quest Elite
Maclaren Quest Elite

image

Maclaren prams are great because not only are they affordable they are lightweight and come with their revolutionary 3D fold design (one hand fold). This ensures the pram folds up both easily and compact which is good if you have a small car or limited boot space. However, Maclaren prams although lightweight is very sturdy and having been around since 1965 you can rest assure their prams are made of the highest safety and quality. They pride themselves on their above industry standards on safety features and innovative styles. Which gives me a lot of confidence when recommending this brand.

THE STYLISH

Quinny Moodd
Quinny Moodd

image

I recommend the Quinny pram with confidence as I currently have the Quinny for my eldest son. I purchased the Quinny a few years back when my son was 3 and we needed a pram for his first trip overseas and the idea of lugging his monster pram around on holidays sent shivers down my spine so I made my husband do some research on a basic lightweight pram and he ended up buying the Quinny Zapp which was perfect!! It folded into a bag and was so light and easy to open and fold I just loved it! The downside is that the Zapp is not suitable for a newborn. That’s why I recommend the Quinny Moodd instead of the Zapp. The Moodd not only looks very stylish it also comes with some great features such as a one touch automatic unfolding and a
two way reclining seat from birth!! The only thing is that it is a bit more heavier than the Bugaboo Bee but still light compared to other prams on the market.

THE HIGH TECH

4Moms Origami
4Moms Origami

image

Although relatively new onto the market the 4Moms Origami pram comes with some very impressive features not seen before on any other prams. It has a power folding feature that means the pram opens and closes by itself with a press of a button. Add to that some generators on the wheels so it can self charge as well as allowing you to charge your phone while you walk how great is that. Then you also get lights on the pram to make you and your baby more visible especially good for those late afternoons and nightly walks. Then the best high tech feature is an LCD screen on the pram that includes a thermometer/speedometer/trip and lifetime odometers. Truly an unbelievable pram with all the quirky technological features. This pram is perfect for those that want something just a little bit different.

So, hopefully after reading this blog post you can go ahead with purchasing the right pram with a bit more knowledge than want I had purchasing my first pram!!!

Gift Ideas For Mum

With Mother’s Day quickly approaching, I know for many the idea of buying the right gift for mum can be quite a difficult task. I mean how can any present convey just how much our mum really means to us. I guess today’s post is mainly for the guys whether you are looking at buying for your mum or the mother of your children I hope this post can make it a lot less confusing choosing the right gift.

The art of choosing the right present is to keep it simple and generic. This means that a good gift will be suitable for any age group. I also tend to stick to presents that people will get good use out of (ever the practical person I am). So if you are in a jam or you have left your present shopping to the last minute which I know guys usually do, instead of the usual flowers and chocolates for mum here are some other ideas you can get her:

Diptyque Candles
Diptyque Candles

I must admit these Diptyque Candles are quite luxurious and expensive but when it’s for your mum the price is justifiable. Seriously once you have purchased a Diptyque candle and lit it up no other candles compare. The aroma you get from these candles are AMAZING!! I just love the Gardenia Candles!!!
(A bouquet of opulent white flowers in a twilit room in the evening). The smell takes me back to an old English garden and with the choice of over 50 different scented candles how can you resist.

I first came across L’occitane products a few years ago in a hotel room in Japan and since then have fallen in love with their products!! All L’occitane products come with a unique smell and I am a sucker for anything that smells good and is good for you. The hand moisturizer is to die for!! Not only will it leave your hands feeling soft but also smelling good too. Since my chance encounter with a bathroom filled with mini L’occitane products, I have since been buying L’occitane gifts for my girlfriends, nieces and even my adopted grandmother!! Their products are so versatile and suitable for any age. I am currently loving their Cherry Blossom range as it brings me back to Japan. If you are looking to get mum a perfume that is slightly different from the pop star and movie star fragrances I suggest you try L’occtaine Cherry Blossom perfume.

Tom Ford Lipstick
Chanel Lipstick

Every woman needs a decent lipstick and getting mum a good quality lipstick she can use everyday is a great gift!! When it comes to a great lipstick you can’t go past Chanel with its iconic button popup lipstick and it’s brand indented on the lipstick how can you consider any other brands? Seriously you can’t go wrong with anything that has Chanel attached to it!!! But then a new kid has arrived on the block and taken the world by storm in the name of Tom Ford who ironically rose to fame designing mens wear specifically suits. However, it has now ventured into beauty products for women and I must say their lipstick range is great and looks good too!! For the more adventurous mum loving the corals in both the Chanel and the Tom Ford range. However, when unsure go for the neutral beige or pale pink colours as these you can wear everyday with any outfit and for any occasions.

Jewellery is always fail safe and I can’t see any woman ever being disappointed when receiving Jewellery as a gift! And if you are looking for the perfect Jewellery piece you really can’t go past the edgy jewellery range from Thomas Sabo! In My Bag

Having come back from a wonderful holiday spending time with family I got the chance to speak to my cousin who will become a father for the first time in the not so distant future! His beautiful expectant wife made me aware of how she has avoided packing her hospital bag simply because she had no idea what she would need. She gave me the inspiration for this post as I hope it would help others who are in the same boat as my cousins.

For some the task of packing your hospital bag can be a simple and seemingly smooth process. However, I realised for many others this can be a very daunting task, especially as in the case of my cousins where they are the first amongst their peers to be parents they do not have the luxury of drawing on the past experience of others. Hopefully this post will make that task a lot less daunting when the time comes and your bundle of joy is ready to join your beautiful family.

My rule of thumb when packing your bag is keep it simple, don’t go overboard with what you need to put in your bag. The main reason for this is that during child birth things can get quite chaotic from the trip to hospital to the actual labour itself so the less you pack the less you need to worry about looking after your bag. Remember you can always send your hubby or family members to pick up other items you may need during your hospital stay. After all thats what they are for right considering the traumatic experience that you have to endure during child birth thats the least hubby can do for you. So here is the list of what was in my bag during my hospital stay:

1. PYJAMAS

Next Pyjamas One of my other favourite brand for pjs!!!

One of my other favourite brand for pjs!!!

I packed a pair of pyjamas and a long nightie in my bag. The nightie comes in handy for the first day after childbirth as you will have the doctor and nurses checking constantly down there to make sure everything is healing and looking good. Trust me once you give birth you lose all your shyness and reservations about your private parts it will be no holds bar so you just have to suck it up and let the nurses and doctors do their job. Hence, I found the nightie was a better option for easy access because it can be quite annoying having to constantly take your pyjama bottoms off. However, if you are like me who feels more comfy in their trusty pjs you can wear them after your first days in hospital, especially when your milk comes pjs are more easier to breastfeed in. I would also bring along a robe if you are having a baby during winter as it can get quite cold breast feeding in the middle of the night as I was for my first born.

2. SLIPPERS OR THONGS

Next Slippers These are great as you can wear them to go home and they are as comfy as slippers.

Slippers or Thongs are a must as hospital floors are quite cold and you may need to wander around from the nursery to different classes for breastfeeding and bathing baby.

Its got to be said trackies are an optional item in your bag. I had a pair in mine because I really didn’t want to see my family and friends in pjs but still wanted to stay comfy and hey what better option than some comfy but also stylish trackies!!!

4. EVERYDAY BEAUTY PRODUCTS

As you can see I am a huge fan of Dermalogica, having introduced my hubby to the Dermalogica moisturiser a few years ago we have never looked back. He loves the fact that the moisturiser feels like you are not wearing any and I love that all their products are made from natural ingredients!! No nasty chemicals or artificial fragrances here!

5. BABY ROMPERS

Pure Baby
Pure Baby
Bonds Newbies Range
Bonds Newbies Range

I have included my two favourite brands here but honestly there are so many endless possibilities when it comes to rompers and many other brands have wonderful designs and colours so we are indeed spoilt for choice in this area. I love Pure Baby as they use organic materials and hence their rompers are probably one of the softest I’ve seen. However, the down side is they are one of the more expensive brands. Thats why Bonds are the other of my favourite brands. Not only are Bonds affordable but their rompers are one of the few around that have cuffs sewn on to the sleeves of the rompers which are perfect to cover baby hands so no need for mittens that may keep falling off your newborns tiny hands.

When choosing rompers for your newborn look for ones with buttons rather than zippers. Go for rompers with covers on the feet and where possible hands as well. And my personal preference are rompers that are buttoned up down the middle so you can slip baby’s arms in on either side rather than rompers where you have to put it over baby’s head!! Remember newborns are quite fragile and they don’t like you taking long to dress them so the more convenient the romper the better!!

6. BEANIE AND CARDIGAN

Sailor Beanie and Knitted Cardigan both from Next

image

As newborns are unable to regulate their body temperature at birth they can get quite cold especially during the evening so hence a cardigan and hat are essential to keep them warm.

7. BABY WRAP

Aden and Anais Classic Swaddles
Aden and Anais
Classic Swaddles

I must stress baby wraps are an optional item as many hospitals do provide this during your stay in hospital. However, I chose to bring my own ones along being a fan of organic products I packed a couple of Aden and Adais muslin wraps. Yes the same one used for Prince George of Cambridge. Aden and Adais wraps are great they provide warmth to your newborn yet are made from light, soft and breathable material so baby is wrapped in the best of comfort!! And its all made from natural materials.

8. MISCELLANEOUS

Finally just a few bits and pieces to round out your bag and you are ready to go when the time comes and the baby is on its way!! You will need a brush, toothbrush, toothpaste, maternity pads (the thicker and longer the better) you will need it!! Finally some breast pads as there will be a few leakages when your milk comes. And that my folks was What Was In My Bag!!

Winter Pregnancy Fashion

Winter fashion during pregnancy is all about the COAT!!! Invest in a well fitted coat and you can turn any simple outfit into an exquisite one! I must admit I spent most of my later months of pregnancy in my burberry wool trench coat! When it comes to stylish coats that are well fitted and classic that bucks all trends and lasts over time you really can’t go past Burberry. Having a decent coat really does save time especially on winter days when you can’t really be bothered, team a pair of jeans and teeshirt with a stylish coat and voila you are ready to do a photoshoot for Vogue or Harpers Bazaar!! Likewise put a stylish coat over a simple maternity dress and you have instant glam! Take inspiration from the Duchess of Cambridge who spent most of her pregnancy in a number of pretty and very stylish coats. Here are some examples of my favourite brands of coats!

The other essential must in any pregnant woman’s wardrobe is definitely a pair of comfy trusted jeans. Even before my pregnancy I practically lived in my jeans they were a staple of my wardrobe and hey why should that change when I got pregnant! So as soon as I couldn’t squeeze myself into my everyday jeans (trust me I hanged on for as long as possible) I knew it was time to invest in a decent pair of maternity jean! I wouldn’t go crazy and buy heaps just a couple to get you through your pregnancy is fine as you can’t really re-wear these after pregnancy. Luckily for me my favourite brand of jeans J Brand have a wonderful selection of maternity jeans as well that are just as comfy as the originals ones!! Trust me you wont be disappointed they have great durability as well!! The other brand I love and highly rate is the Paige jeans and like J Brand they also carry a number of maternity jeans and the fit of these jeans are just superb!

Lastly the only other items during winter you would need, to look like a yummy mummy-to-be is a cape or poncho that drapes over the belly without drawing attention to it!
Another example of working with your ever growing belly instead of against it! Not only will this keep you warm in winter it is also super comfy because it loosely drapes over your body! Wear it over leggings and you are ready for a no fuss stylish look.

The other item I loved to wear during my winter pregnancy was my trusty Burberry scarf. Scarves can transform your boring outfit into a stylish one! Add a bit of colour to a grey or black dress with a print or bright scarf and you will have even Anna Wintour smiling!!! Also scarves are great at drawing attention away from your ever growing belly, perfect for days when you are feeling a bit self conscious about your changing body shape!! Which for me was nearly every day because I felt short and stumpy with a growing belly so by throwing on a nice scarf over my belly for some reason made me feel more glamorous!

Baby Car Seats

I’m not sure what is going on today but it seems like everyone is in a rush all the time. It saddens me to witness recently a crash while dropping my son off a school because a father could not wait 5 extra minutes for a mother to pull out before he slammed into her car with children still on board. The loud bang of two cars colliding sickens me and I just can’t understand why people can’t wait that extra few minutes to ensure the safety of our children. But thus this is the world we live in today so unfortunately the one thing as a
parent-to-be we cannot skimp on is a decent baby car seats.

As we all know you can not leave a hospital with your newborn without a baby seat being installed in your car. So after the purchase of the cot this was the next item on our shopping list. Fortunately for me my husband was a strong advocate of buying the best possible safest baby car seat that was available at the time. Mainly because his wife was such a bad driver, he had to make sure his son was going to be as safe as possible given the driving ability of his wife poor thing! He did his research and there was so many out there it was quite daunting. However, luckily as an engineer research was a part of his DNA.
Also, talking to recent mothers I have been able to put together some suggestions which hopefully will help in making your decision when purchasing a car seat easier.

There are two options you need to consider when looking at buying a baby car seats. The first option is a baby car seat that can be detached from the car and attached on to a pram. This option is great for mothers who are constantly on the move. You can simply unlock the baby seat from the car and carry your baby out undisturbed. Great for babies that get upset if their sleep is disturbed. Two brands that do great baby seats that allows you to use as a baby carrier are Maxi Cosi and Chicco.

MAXI COSI

Maxi. Cosi Titan
Maxi. Cosi Titan

The Maxi Cosi is probably one of the most popular brand that allows you this option. The main advantage of buying a Maxi Cosi is that you can attached this baby carrier to a number of different prams by simply purchasing an attachment for that pram. This means you do not have to purchase a Maxi Cosi pram if you do not wish to. I find this flexibility a bonus and it is also one of the safer brands of baby car seats currently available. Having a few friends using this brand and not having any issues with it gives me confidence in recommending it.

Chicco

Sold as a carrier and pram set
Sold as a carrier and pram set

The other brand that I am recommending is Chicco only because I do love their products. I have their baby walker and I must say compared to my first walker, the Chicco one was a lot more sturdy and the toy Tray was much more high tech than my previous one which my son loved! Overall the quality of the walker was of much higher standard and so I am confident that their baby seat and pram will be along the same lines as all their other products. And afterall I am a sucker for products that not only does the job but looks good too.

Now the second option is simply purchasing a baby seat that is fitted securely into your car. This is the option I chose as I am only about 5 foot and carrying a carrier around would have been a struggle for me given my height and size. After looking at numerous brands I settled on the Safe and Sound mainly because of their high safety ratings. I just love this brand as there is quite a lot of cushioning around baby, particularly around his head area that you do not find on some other brands. Now, Safe and Sound isn’t cheap and their unique AHR (Active Head Restraint) technology is the main reason my hubby preferred this brand over many others. We found this was worth the extra dollars for to give our precious one the best protection. And we have been able to reuse the same seat for our second son without any problems.

Safe n Sound

Safe n Sound AHR Booster
Safe n Sound AHR Booster

Infa

Infa Secure Luxi
Infa Secure Luxi

The other brands that some of my friends have chosen and recommended to me is the Infa brand. The baby seat is very similar to the Safe n Sound with quite a lot if cushioning for baby’s safety and like all Infa products the design is very fashion forward. The other bonus is it is designed in Australia and meets all the strict Australian standards which is very high as child road safety is paramount in Australian government regulations. Hey where else in the world do you get fined $600 for any child that is not properly restrained in a car!

Hope this post helps when you are deciding which baby car seat is best for you and your precious child.

I have recently had some positive feedback with regards to this blog and a few have let me know about some of the problems that I need to look at in order to make this blog more efficient. I will endeavour to fix all the necessary requests as soon as possible with the help of some experts as technology is not one of my strong points. For those wanting to send me any ideas or suggestions please feel free to email to hellomummycorner@gmail.com

Also, you can follow me on my Instagram account mummycorner for updates on new blogs and to give me any valuable suggestions through this avenue. I also have a Facebook page mummycorner if Facebook is your preferred option! In the meantime continue to enjoy life and the precious experience that comes with being a mum!

Summer Pregnancy Fashion

I found short stretchy dresses worked well on hot summer days when the thought of pulling on jeans or pants would be too exhausting especially as the belly was getting bigger!! Lucky for me Seraphine does wonderful comfy dresses that look good as well. Lets face it who wouldn’t want to look as good as Kate Middleton during her pregnancy, and thanks to Seraphine we can. Their dresses are great and they are totally affordable too!! The bonus is they are designed so that breast feeding is easily accessible, what more can you ask for! I have posted some of my favourite dresses from them. You can also browse other designs on their website www.seraphine.com They deliver internationally as well!!!

I also found long maxi dresses extremely comfortable for summer and they are great at hiding all the lumps and bumps during the later stages of pregnancy. Black maxi dresses are great at slimming one’s figure when you start to feel as big as a house, something I found I was feeling every second day as my due date drew closer. Fortunately with maxi dresses you can go two different ways, you can choose to buy maternity maxi dresses and ASOS does a range of affordable and very pretty maternity maxi dresses. Their website is www.asos.com and they ship to most countries worldwide

On the other hand you can purchase normal maxi dresses that flows over the belly. If this is your preferred option avoid tight fitting maxi dresses and go for a more loose fitting dress. The advantage of going with this option is that you can continue wearing these dresses post pregnancy. I love Modcloth dresses and their website is www.modcloth.com. They ship to Australia which is great. Here are some of my favourite styles from them

Finally, you can’t go past a loose fitting top and leggings for those lazy days when you really just can’t be bothered and trust me these days are a regular occurrence when you are in your home stretch of pregnancy. But who saids you can’t look trendy with leggings. The key is the top and once again I turn to Seraphine for inspiration as they do tops that are fashionable and breast feeding friendly. Here are a few:
